First of a few fun projects that I have been working on that I can now finally share: my first Target Gift Card! It was a such a great experience to work with them. Let me know what you think and if you see my card in the stores!

Oh Blog…

Ack, this blog has been SO neglected lately, I am in full swing of my busy season that is slowly coming to an end over the next week or so. This past weekend was the biggest hurdle to get over: two craft shows and two art openings. I think I may have to get my head examined to figure out why I committed myself to all of these things on basically the same day. Oh, and throw in an illustration deadline or two in there the week leading up…

Over the weekend was the opening for both the Craftland Holiday Show in Providence (I have written about my love for Craftland here) as well as the Bazaar Bizarre in Boston. Total mania getting everything together in time with a new display and new product, but in the end totally fun and totally worth it! I could not have done the Bazaar Bizarre without the help of my wonderful friends (and talented illustrators) Andrea and Nathan who helped me at the booth all day long. We all got to talk to some of the other amazing crafters, I was so happy to meet Sarah of The Small Object as well as Heidi of My Paper Crane, and fellow Lilla Rogers illustrator Jenn Ski. I have been a huge fan of all of these ladies for such a long time, it was fantastic to get to meet them all in person.

On to the art shows: I am a part of a group show at Giant Robot New York with fellow RISD alum Julia Rothman, Jing Wei and Daria Tessler. I was so sad that I couldn’t make it down for the opening, I love the work of all the artists in the show. If you are in NYC the show will be up until January 13th, please check it out, pics and artwork for sale should be up soon on the GRNY website.

I also contributed some drawings to the Post-It show at GR2 in Los Angeles, which is an awesome and amazing annual group show curated by Mark Todd and Esther Pearl Watson. It is a great chance to get some affordable art for the holidays - every Post-It is priced at $20, and you can get some really great art from a huge variety of artists. The show is up now through January 13th. To get a better idea of the sheer volume of post-its, check out this video from last year’s show.

My final event of the season is this coming Friday, December 11th at the Pinkcomma Gallery in Boston - I am participating in a one-night-only group show,  Design Nearby: Big Print, Little Print. The focus is on local print artists selling originals and editions of all different medias and sizes. It should be a fun time!

Stay tuned for more updates this week, I have tons of new work to share!

Keds!

I recently got the chance to work on this super fun project designing patterns for the Keds Collective website! The shoes are print-on-demand, available on the web only. Click here to see my whole collection!

Things have been busy, my apologies for the light posting. I have lots to share, just haven’t gotten the chance to get my head together! My husband’s record label, Anchor Brain, released their first two releases this past week and we have been busy assembling posters and LP’s, very exciting.

Illustrator link of the week: Girls Who Draw : Menagerie, a limited-edition post card book featuring the work of 11 lovely illustrators. I ordered my copy this week from Mary Kilvert, can’t wait to get it in the mail!

Cover illustration

A recent cover illustration for Providence Monthly magazine…This was a fun one to work on, I loved being able to combine lettering, texture, pattern, and people.

I’m so happy it’s the weekend - I have a lot of work to do for a new and exciting project, I will hopefully be able to share the details soon! Also, for anyone in the RI area, tomorrow (Saturday) is the RISD Alumni and Student sale - I will be unveiling a new button and hopefully a new bag style (depends on how late I can stay up tonight!) So come visit me on Benefit St. from 10am to 4pm.

Illustrator link of the week: Just stumbled across the work of London-based illustrator Christiane Engel, she has a super cute style and an impressive body of work.

Tiny Showcase!

My new Tiny Showcase print is up! Please click here if you’d like to purchase.

Edit: Also my submission for Illustration Friday’s topic - Flying! What a great coincidence.

Design*Sponge

livingarea_1

Yay, this morning my Sneak Peek over at Design Sponge is up! Design Sponge is one of my favorite blogs of all time, and I was super excited to share our home with them (and now all of you).  I was worried I wouldn’t make the cut - we do have LOTS of Ikea, but also a healthy mix of vintage and art.  The photos were taken by the fantastic and talented photographer Kate Kelley, you can check out her other work here. I hope you enjoy the peek into my home!

Printing Posters

Printing for The Chinese Stars posters are complete - a perfect job done by Alex + Steven at Devil’s Rainbow Printing! The new Stars record will be out October 13th on Anchor Brain.

Craftland Opening Party

Oops, took me a little while to post these from the Craftland opening party a few weeks ago - one of the highlights of the new permanent space is the lovely gallery area in the back of the store. The current show,  Boys of Summer, has introduced me to the work of one of my new favorite artists, Cody Thompson. Cody makes amazing plush dolls and sculptures - all are intricate, slightly disturbing and painstakingly handmade. His website seems to be down but you can click here to check out a photo gallery of his work. If you’re local don’t forget to stop by Craftland before the show closes October 10th.

New Work

Worked this weekend on some new cut paper art for some upcoming shows: one is an 8×10 piece for the Giant Robot Biennale 2 exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in LA, the others are for a show in December at Giant Robot New York.

In making the new work, I love finding remnants of older pieces - the top photo has the silhouette from the award ribbon on the boy’s wall in this piece from 2005.

And many thanks to the wonderful illustrator Jenn Ski for posting an interview with me last week on her blog, you can check it out here.
